Healthy Halloween Snacks

Halloween is right around the corner, and today we are sharing our list of healthy Halloween-themed snacks to help you cut down on your sugar intake.

First off, who doesn’t love those cutie mandarins from the store? These fruits are easy to peel and always taste sweet. To make them more festive for Halloween, you can simply draw on some jack-o-lantern faces on the skins of these yummy mandarins. The best part about these snacks is you don’t have to create any complicated recipes or presentations to make them festive. If you want, these little guys can act as a centerpiece for your Halloween dinner or party.

To make your vegetable and cheese sticks fun to eat, you can make them into mini broomsticks. Cut some cheese sticks in half and cut slits on one end to make it look like a broom head. Carefully round out a small hole at the other end of the cheese and insert a cut celery or carrot stick to that end. Just like that, you have made a simple snack that can bring a little more joy to your day.

Another healthy Halloween snack to try is deviled eggs. Hard boil as many eggs as you want and cut each egg in half after peeling off the shell. To make it festive, you will also need olives to create a “spider” on top of the mashed and seasoned egg yolk mix. In order to create a spider, cut a whole olive in half and use that as the spider’s body in the middle of the egg yolk. Next, thinly slice 2 halved olives to create 4 legs on each side of the body. These snacks are so fun and are another healthy alternative to those ever tempting Halloween candies.

We all love the smells of autumn. Instead of buying a candle, try making a homemade applesauce. You can do it in a large pot with just 10 medium-sized apples. Peel, core, and slice your apples into quarter pieces then add some orange juice, vanilla extract, and cinnamon and let it all simmer in a covered pot for about 30 minutes. This will make the apples soft enough to mash into applesauce. The aroma from the apples and cinnamon will enhance the fall season, and you will have the pleasure of having homemade applesauce on hand when you need a healthy snack during Halloween.

If you are looking for a spooky Halloween appetizer, try these eyeballs. All you need to make them is some thinly sliced prosciutto, mozzarella balls, and pimento stuffed green olives. This takes a little extra effort presentation wise, but they are a great way to add a hint of fun to your Halloween festivities. It is a savory finger food that is perfect for this time of year.

Last but not least, you can create simple banana popsicles and transform them to look like ghosts. They are such a fun Halloween snack that children can help put together. Start out with 4 to 8 large fresh bananas that are cut in half crosswise and then sliced in half lengthwise. Carefully insert a popsicle stick into each cut banana and freeze them for at least 30 minutes on top of a pan lined with parchment paper (so the bananas don’t stick to the pan). Next, you dip each banana in vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt and add mini chocolate chips as the eyes for your banana ghosts and refreeze for another hour to allow the yogurt to set.

We hope you enjoyed our list of Halloween snacks. These will give you a healthier alternative to those never-ending candy supplies this time of year.
